BRAVE Education about Addiction and the Kerry Gladue Story
Author and addictions counselor Kerry Gladue shares his story of hope, including how addiction works and surviving childhood trauma as a second generation residential school survivor.
Trevor shares the brain science of addiction in a way that everyone can relate. He presents with the goal of reducing stigma and increasing awareness, sharing definitions of Addiction and Recovery, and then demonstrates how people who are living without out addiction can actually understand what it is like to be addicted to a substance, and to live daily with addiction.
We must be able to address the addiction issues in our society WITHOUT shock, judgment, or disapproval. Empathy might be about “walking a mile in someone else’s shoes,” but sympathy and compassion are about knowing that others struggle, suffer, and need our support.
