My background in education and psychology led me to develop an interest in teachers’ mental health and the unique effects that teaching has on one's relationships and experiences of stress. During my Master of Counselling degree, I designed a workshop to support teachers in improving their mental health through developing self-awareness. I focus on providing teachers with a theoretical foundation in concepts such as emotion regulation, attachment, identity development, and interpersonal patterns to help them learn more about themselves. I also deliver practice and effective strategies for assessing and managing personal mental wellness and stress. This workshop has been delivered multiple times to the Bachelor of Education students at St. Mary's University in Calgary and has received excellent feedback. My hope is for all teachers to develop a deeper understanding of themselves so they can better manage the demands of teaching and better meet the needs of their students.
