Participates in 1 Session
Meriel Hughes has been teaching for over 25 years. Her early years of teaching were at the elementary level where she saw the importance of keeping students engaged in learning and confident in their abilities with numbers. She spent three years in London teaching at the International School of London and was introduced to an honours academic program. She is currently teaching both International Baccalaureate math and Advanced Placement Math at Jasper Place High School in Edmonton.

In 2017, Meriel completed her Masters of Mathematics degree through the University of Waterloo. The course on number theory that Meriel took in her masters spurred her interest in the topic of prime numbers. She wrote her final capstone project on prime numbers looking at both their history as well as their application to basic numeracy skills.

Meriel is married with two grown stepchildren. She has two dogs, a three-year-old brown labradoodle and a one year old golden doodle. She thoroughly enjoys spending time with her dogs.
