Michelle started her undergraduate degree in painting and later began to explore video and media at the Alberta College of Art and design. After going on an exchange program to Vancouver, BC for one semester, and being invited to transfer institutions mid degree, she ended up graduating from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2008 with a BMA in Film, Video, and Integrated Practices. Michelle has been passionately working as an artist (using a variety of mediums) and filmmaker since then; making expressive work resulting from creative risk taking.

Social advocacy and helping others through the arts is a key focus of her arts practice. She completed a dual master's degree in counselling psychology and art therapy and is a Certified Canadian Counsellor (C.C.C.) and Professional Art Therapist. Michelle is currently building a private counselling/art therapy practice, facilitating art workshops to support people with mental and physical health barriers, one of four directors/producers of an incorporated film production company (Backpocket Dreams Inc.), and painting as often as she can as part of her arts practice and personal healing process. Michelle is passionate about collaborating in diverse ways within the arts community and, within her film practice, strives to support women in film (both behind and in front of the camera).
