Following a contextualization of the “Skin Hunger Epidemic” in the Calgarian milieu (led by Educator Alex May and Canadian Certified Counsellor, Meg Martin) participants will self-select into working groups that will collaborate on the creation of an outline for a position paper addressing the topic for future publication. This paper will summarize the current positioning of ‘touch’ in Calgary classrooms, address past and existing litigation that has led to that positioning, delineate current research into the consequences of touch-paucity and present not only the benefits, but necessities, of healthy, appropriate touch in the classroom, and present a framework for implementing positive change towards this in our schools.
