In this full-day session, K-12 educators will explore foundational understandings of Indigenous worldviews. Drawing from research, classroom examples and learned experience, Janis and Tracy will uncover a multitude of possibilities in teaching from a "third space" theory of practice. Participants will engage in hands on experiential learning, reflect upon the new Alberta Education curriculum and embedded Teacher Quality Standards for Indigenous education, and get inspired through storytelling. Working in collaboration, educators will have the opportunity to brainstorm possibilities in designing instruction for learner outcomes. Content covered will be specific to mathematics and science; however the explored knowledge transcends the disciplines, and holds relevance for every learner, in every classroom.
