It is important to keep adolescents’ interests and needs in mind when designing literacy instruction. If it is to be effective, literacy instruction must address student engagement with a variety of texts (oral, print and other media texts) in diverse settings. Literacy instruction must go beyond the elementary grades. Participants will go back to their classrooms with practical strategies that can be implemented immediately.
