What is in your art supply cupboard? Do you know how to get the most out of your supplies? How do you know what art materials you are buying? How many uses they may have? This one-day workshop will examine the qualities of a wide range of materials found in both well-equipped and shoestring-budget art classrooms. Knowing the composition and qualities of a material is essential to understanding its potential, compatibilities, and hazards. This discussion and practical demonstration samplings will include traditional and alternative art-making materials and pointers for running a zero-budget art classroom in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and multimedia. See examples of student work and finish with a hands-on drawing session with the underused oil pastel.

The session offers something for both the novice to art as well as the veteran art teacher. This session is practical approach to materials, which ones mix well, or which materials might set one up for failure. The knowledge will assist with project planning, and it will open up possibilities of new uses for materials which you have not considered. Bring a notebook and a smile.
