All people have implicit bias, which is a learned trait through social constructions of knowledge, especially through the media. Implicit bias is an unconscious way of interacting with others and may have unintended consequences on our students and colleagues. To explore implicit bias means to reflexively explore our selves to prevent inadvertently and unintentionally marginalizing our students and colleagues, and this may detract from a fully inclusive educational system. During this session, participants will learn about implicit bias and the impact it has on our educational system as well as strategies to become a reflexive practitioner.
