Despite rumours to the contrary, adolescents can have a great time folk dancing! They may have a very different relationship to dance than do younger children or adults, but teens enjoy the energy, rhythm and mental challenges of dancing. While they may be terrified of the physical proximity involved, they are also fascinated by it and usually appreciate the chance to learn the social niceties of dancing in a fun, active way. In this workshop we will learn some great dances that hold special appeal for adolescents, along with strategies to encourage their enthusiastic participation.  This will be an active session of ready-to-use dances with suggestions for links to language arts, math and social studies curriculum.
