Math Inquiry Through Literature: Early Years connections between Mathematics and Literacy
The goal of this session is for teachers to walk away with an understanding and ideas of how they can use literature experiences to promote mathematical thinking and communication.
After an introductory discussion, participants will engage in a variety of centers composed of picture books, poetry, photographs, math manipulatives and everyday objects. Through purposeful play, the centers will provoke exploration, curiosity, mathematical debate, reasoning and communication. During this center time, structures will be set up for the participants to work collaboratively and to share their wonders and observations.
To conclude the session, we will address the strategies of assessment and the logistics of intentional open inquiry learning.
