(1 hour)
Where:
Calgary Central Library -
#310-B
What is gender identity? How can literature for children and youth contribute to, or counter, gender stereotypes? Join Calgary Pride, Calgary Public Library and the Calgary Queer Arts Society for a look at gender definitions, the importance of gender pronouns and how literature can be a helpful tool for conversations about inclusion, diversity, stereotypes and difference in your classroom. Inspired by the wildly popular family Storytime program at the Library, Reading with Royalty, educators will be able to see and connect with people who interpret gender fluidly and are invited to ask questions in a safe and welcoming environment. Return to school with book lists, ideas for supporting students with their own questions about gender and a greater understanding of gender identity.
