Re-examining Munich 1938... the parable, the geopolitics and the echoes

Social StudiesReligious and Moral Education
Half Day Workshop
Friday Feb 15   09:00 AM to 11:45 AM (2 hours 45 minutes)

Using the framework of "Realism" (that all foreign policy is formed on the basis of self-interest) we examine the geopolitics of the Munich Crisis and its remarkable analogues in recent military interventions. Along the way there is a history quiz (everyone gets a prize) on the misuses of the "Munich" parable. Participants will become aware of "Popular Geopolitics" (what we are led to believe), "Classical Geopolitics" (enduring geopolitical issues) and "Practical Geopolitics" (geopolitics as practiced). Most discussions of war (that we are privy to) are not based on their real causes. This talk provides missing historical knowledge as well as frameworks that not only can account for the history of "Munich" but provide an understanding of the ultimate causes of war.
