Activating Student Voice Through Youth Philanthropy
How do we provide authentic opportunities for students to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge that will enable them to become engaged, active, informed and responsible citizens? This stated mandate of Social Studies education is a critical question for educators across subjects.
Join us to learn about the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), a program in which six Calgary schools currently participate to address this critical question and activate student voice. YPI grows compassionate communities by connecting youth to social issues, local charities, and philanthropy through a variety of curricula in schools across Canada. YPI provides opportunities for students to engage in experiential learning about their communities, granting hundreds of thousands of dollars to community-based social service charities annually, 100% decided by thousands of teenagers.
